1998 Trip to Transylvania

Dracula's Castle in Bran. This castle should not be mistaken for the actual Castle Dracula (now in ruins), which is located on the Arges River, at a more secluded site.
Visit the Bran castle.

Bozodujfalu - 5% of the Sovata congregation was relocated to Sovata after their village was flooded by Ceausecau in his move to destroy a place where several religions coexisted peacefully. Most of the village inhabitants moved to Erdoszentgyorgy (around 75%) , 20% moved to the nearest villages (Bozod, Csokfalva, Havad). Shown are a Catholic and Unitarian church. The site is now known as "the drowned village".

Francis David was an orthodox Roman Catholic priest who founded Unitarianism in Transylvania in 1566. This is the cell in the dungeon of Deva Castle where he was thrown after being accused of "religious innovation" and convicted for his Unitarian beliefs and preaching of them. He died on or about 15 November 1579.

The banner UUCM members made for our partner church. The roots of the tree represent our Unitarian roots in Transylvania and the leaves show our religion blossoming outside Transylvania. It was designed by Louise Todd Cope.
