Linda Haumann, MA is our Religous Education Director.
Nursery
During the 10:30 a.m. service Rabea McCullough provides love and care to our infants and toddlers. Children up to three years old are welcome. Putting our 7 principles into action begins in the nursery!
Overview of RE (Religious Education):
In our classes children begin to learn about UU principles both in theory and practice.
We start each class by lighting a chalice, symbol of our UU faith. While adults listen to sermons in the main service, children explore similar themes in their classes.
We also spend time connecting with one another to build community. While encouraging children to develop a personal search for truth and meaning, we expose them to a variety of faith traditions through story, play, drama, art, music, and writing.
We encourage children to practice sharing their abundance through “giving time” in RE and through service projects of their choice.
Worship for Children
In addition to classroom learning, we offer special worship services by and for our children. Several times throughout the year the children come together to co-create worship through song, dance, meditation, story telling, and sharing.

Pre-K/Kindergarten:
Our volunteer teachers lovingly guide our youngest students as they begin to learn about our UU principles and traditions. Through play, stories, music and art projects these little ones share laughter, friendship and love.

Grades 1-3:
The focus this year is on our 7th UU principle: “Respect for the interdependent web of life of which we are a part”. Storytellers Ann Gronvold and Nani Ranken share their talents with our children. Through creative storytelling, theater games, art projects and out of doors explorations these children study “Experiences with the Web” and also learn about peace, kindness, accepting and caring for each other and our planet.

Grades 4-6:
The 7th UU principle is explored in depth in this class by studying topics such as what it means to be truly sustainable, why protecting our water is so critical and understanding climate change. Hands on projects such as a “repurposing design/build” fair, warm coat drive and field trips are all included. Tanya Webster and Susan Mathews lead.
Grades 7-8:
Students come together to bond, clarify their personal values, and deepen their friendships through the study of “Our Whole Lives”, a human sexuality program embedded in our UU principles and values. Mike Songster, Doug Kerr and Lori Smith lead.
YRUU
(Young Religious Unitarian Universalists, high school)
These High School students come together for community, worship, socializing, and service. They also just have a great time!
From building a labyrinth on our grounds, to exploring current issues like global warming, to participating in the adult worship, they are putting our principles into action.
These youth also attend and host UU youth conferences throughout our Pacific Central District (PCD) of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).
They are always open to new members!
Dan Mansergh is our youth advisor, assisted by Sher Sheldon.
Our choir director, Philip Hildreth offers a choral program for our children. They rehearse once a week after service and perform once a month on Sunday mornings for our congregation’s delight. All are welcome!

Religious Education Policy: Once children/youth have been visiting RE (Religious Education) for six months, their families will be expected to become either pledging members or pledging friends.
UUCM Annual Retreat 2012 May 4 - May 6, 2012
The most anticipated intergenerational event of the year, for relaxation, workshops and just plain being together. Spiritual and exciting, this is a marvelous way for us to connect with one another. More information.
