Our UUCM Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 9 PM in the Clara Barton Room. All are invited. Our next meeting is February 15. Carol Littrell will lead a discussion of Nemesis by Chalmers Johnson. Johnson, a political scientist, is author of Blowback and The Sorrows of Empire. "In Nemesis, the bestselling and final volume in what has become known as the Blowback Trilogy, he shows how imperial overstretch is undermining the republic itself, both economically and politically." His advice is to follow Britain's role and jettison both empire and the world-policeman role.

“Knitting to Serve” is a needlework group that meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday evening (except November and December) at 7 pm at UUCM to make afghans as an expression of caring for special people. This is part of the national activity “Keep America Warm”. Squares are knitted or crocheted and then stitched together to make small blankets to be given away. Linda Haumann is the coordinator of this activity. She took several of the blankets to residents of the local nursing home recently when the RE classes were visiting there. Both the children and the blankets were received warmly!
